Student Involvement

Undergraduate Classes

We plan to offer an undergraduate class INDV 102 – CONSUMERS, ENVIRONMENT, & SUSTAINABLE CONSUMPTION in Spring 2012.

This class will explore consumer attitudes and behavior related to the sustainable consumption of goods, services and natural resources, as well as the role of retailers and manufacturers in promoting environmental sustainability. It will include case studies and team projects on sustainable consumption, as well as presentations from retailers and other organizations. We will concurrently offer both a regular and honors section for this class.

Students enrolled in this class can also take part in a longitudinal research study on young consumers’ environmental and social literacy, as well as consumer attitudes and behavior related to the sustainable consumption of consumer goods, services, and natural resources.

Graduate Classes

We plan to offer a graduate class RCSC 696 – CONSUMER BEHAVIOR & SUSTAINABILITY RESEARCH in Fall 2011.

This class will explore classical theories of consumer behavior and their application to empirical research on sustainable consumption. Students enrolled in this class will be required to complete an applied research project, which may involve the analysis or extension of data collected in our longitudinal research study on young consumers’ environmental and social literacy, as well as consumer attitudes and behavior related to the sustainable consumption of consumer goods, services, and natural resources.

Independent Student Research

Students interested in learning more about sustainable consumption and in conducting their own research projects should contact Dr. Anita Bhappu or Dr. Sabrina Helm regarding opportunities for independent study projects.

Also, undergraduate students interested in research projects should contact The University of Arizona’s Office of Undergraduate research at http://www.ur.arizona.edu/ to learn about additional research opportunities beyond the field of sustainable consumption.
